Rubies School of Women Empowerment – a subsidiary of Pink Pearl Foundation and Delta State Ministry of Women Affairs and Community Development held a one-day women empowerment forum and awards ceremony to honour deserving women on Saturday, 8thMarch 2014 at the Banquet Hall, Government House, Asaba, Delta State.
The event held in celebration of World International Women’s Day is an initiation of Rubies School of Women Empowerment to further promote and empower women become productive members of the society through the acquisition of various skills such as, industrial production of soaps, body care products, tailoring, bead making, wire works, catering, and a general business management course; to help them better their lives and that of their families.
The 2014 edition featured a seminar on varying topics such as how to invest, how to become self-independent and be better entrepreneurs. Keynote speakers at the seminar include, Mrs Wunmi Williams, CEO, Nakenons Style Studio with the topic: “Your Mind and your Product – Self Esteem and your Business”; Ms Sheryl Manchisi, Dr Ndidi Nnoli Edozien and Praise Fowowe, who spoke on “A Child Sexual Abuse Free Delta State”.Coordinating Minister of Finance and Economy, Dr Ngozi Okonjo Iweala was also present; she made a keynote address calling on Nigerian women to be steadfast and defend their right as women.
Furthering on the topic of the event, “Equality for Women is Progress for all“, CEO and Founder of Pink Pearl Foundation, Mrs Orode Ryan-Okpu emphasized the school’s ongoing effort to contribute to women empowerment in Nigeria.
The highlight of the event was the Ruby Entrepreneurship Excellence Awards, a significant gesture that honoured women across all works of life for their contribution towards growth and development. Alumnae of Rubies School for Women Empowerment were honoured for their sterling entrepreneurial prowess. Women were awarded for Entrepreneurship Excellence in Catering, Industrial Production, Tailoring Department and more.
